The Beginning

As a mother, Ms Lam Hoey Mien wanted to send her daughter to a kindergarten that would inspire her little girl's world through nature and play. While the kindergartens in Baling – Pengkalan Hulu communities were practical, it was mostly traditional. She felt that growth should stem from play rather than just learning the alphabet alone. She believed and still does, that learning can become persuasive when children spend uncounted hours playing outdoors, exploring nature, experimenting on spontaneous ideas and investigating with peers.

The learning process is essentially threefold, engaging head, heart, and hands—or thinking, feeling, and doing, Summer School in England, Summerhill is noted for its philosophy that children learn best with freedom from coercion , in which they believed subjects in school are not meant to be studied and tested, but instead should be experienced. With this set in her heart, she ventured to create a kindergarten that does precisely that. In 2005, Tadika Matahari Ceria was established and registered with the Education Department of Malaysia in Baling, Kedah. TMC now located in Pengkalan Hulu Perak since 2021 after pandemic of Covid-19.

To establish life that reaches beyond the rural realm for the child. It aims to build a sturdy foundation based on rural living for the children so to prepare them for the vast world. Children should not feel limited living in the country but rather be inspired and liberated by it that wherever they go in the future, they can adapt and yet remained tightly knitted to their foundation.
