National Pre-School Curriculum
The NPSC Malaysia Kindergarten Curriculum provides a holistic framework designed to support children's overall development, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. At TMC, we blend this curriculum with our vision, mission, and values to create a nurturing environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love for lifelong learning.
The NPSC curriculum standards include six components:
Communication—Integrate English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese language skills.
Spiritual Attitude & Value—Instil religious practices, beliefs, attitudes and values.
Personal Competence—Develop leadership and personality through curriculum and co-curriculum activities.
Physical and Aesthetical—Promote health, physical development, talents, and appreciation of arts and music.
Cognitive & Technology—Master science, mathematics, technology knowledge and skills.
Humanity—Provide knowledge about community, environment, country and global practice while instilling patriotism and unity.
At TMC, we have integrated the NPSC standards with our vision, mission, and values to create a cohesive and blended curriculum. This curriculum harmonises academic learning with personal development, encouraging children to explore, create, and grow in a nurturing environment.
Communication
Malay, English, Chinese — listening, speaking, reading & writing skills.
Equal learning opportunities are allocated for each language to ensure diligent observation of each child’s progress.
Foundation module and integration module that emphasise the basic skills of languages and appliance of usage respectively.
In addition to daily portfolios, we conduct two one-on-one sessional assessments annually (Formative assessment & summative assessment).
Parent-teacher meetings are arranged after each assessment to update and support the children's growth.
Teachers frequently review their teaching approaches and work closely with parents to provide balanced and practical support for the children.
Spiritual Attitude and Value
For non-Muslim children, moral education emphasizes developing individuals with strong moral values based on three domains: reasoning, emotions, and behaviours. These domains are integrated with 14 universal values that align with religious teachings, societal norms, and beliefs of Malaysian society.
Example: In 2023, we conducted the Bamboo Bank with Jing Si Aphorism project. Each day, children dropped coins into a bamboo bank while reciting the Jing Si Aphorism quote, “Think good thoughts, speak kind words, do good deeds.” They collected a significant amount of money and collaborated with local leaders from Pengkalan Hulu, Kampung Tasek, and Klian Intan to distribute 30 food baskets to elderly individuals living alone in the community.
This annual program involves contextual learning, integrating educational content with students' daily experiences, community involvement, and real-world applications. It provides concrete learning opportunities through hands-on and minds-on activities, reinforcing moral and ethical development.
Islamic Education
We provide basic Islamic education for Muslim children, focusing on foundational religious knowledge and practices.
Moral Education
Personal Competence
Developing this competence is crucial as it forms the foundation for building a positive self-concept and equips pupils to face future challenges. The emphasis is on understanding and managing one’s emotions and building social skills. Children are nurtured to be self-disciplined and cooperative during outdoor learning activities, whether in project-based tasks, field trips, or collaboration programs.
Opportunities for competitions and performances with invited guests help children develop communication skills, confidence, and independence.
Visiting elderly individuals living alone fosters sympathy and empathy, encouraging children to help those in need.
Engaging in farming activities teaches children patience and responsibility as they grow crops from seed to plate.
Physical & Aesthetical
We engage children in a variety of physical activities that promote the development of fine motor skills, gross motor skills, manipulative skills, and rhythmic movement. These foundational skills are essential for complex movements needed in daily life. By incorporating both foundational lessons and outdoor experiences, we encourage physical growth through play and hands-on learning.
Physical Education
Creativity & Aesthetics
Music and movement are integrated into various creative activities that are both fun and entertaining. Students are provided with opportunities to showcase their talents and interests in music at their own developmental stages. Activities such as storytelling, poem recitation, singing, and dancing are conducted as competitions or stage performances, serving as annual highlights to celebrate and nurture their artistic growth.
Visual Arts in preschool emphasizes the production and appreciation of creative works based on four fields which are drawing, pattern and design, form and build models and introduction to traditional crafts. Integration of these fields will give pupils’ opportunities to increase their interests, develop their personality, develop awareness and sensitivity to artistic values and the environment. Activities such as acorn art, fabric toy sewing, creative coloring, and puppet making practiced in TMC allow children to apply their knowledge in art production, explore various techniques and materials, and cultivate an appreciation for their own and others' creative expressions.
Cognitive
We focus on basic mathematical concepts and numeracy skills through hands-on learning practices that help children grasp essential mathematical principles. We cultivate an interest in mathematics by engaging children in various activities and experiences beyond the classroom. These activities are integrated into outdoor or project-based learning to apply early mathematical knowledge in real-world contexts.
Mathematics
Science
Early science literacy and attitudes are developed through the formation of scientific process skills and investigation of the living, material, and physical worlds. We provide authentic content to nurture scientific character and curiosity.
In the 2018 Holiday Program-TMC Kitchen, children learned to:
Discuss recipes to learn
Design flyers to invite the public to a food fair
Design and decorate menus
Measure and weigh ingredients during cooking lessons
Calculate the packaging needed for sales
Collect money from selling food
Calculate the costs and revenue of the food fair and share profits
Early Science lesson:
Build a boat after experimenting with items that float and sink
Create shadow puppets and play with them under different light sources
Experiment with colours by making a rainbow top
Mix different colours of dough to observe changes
These hands-on activities involve observation, prediction, inference, communication, and measurement, providing extensive practical experiences.
Humanity
We integrate the six NPCS components through thematic approaches. Hands-on, play-based, and experimentally supported projects and outdoor activities are organized to impart knowledge and instill values. Each syllabus starts with familiar concepts and gradually moves towards new ideas, beginning with a micro perspective and expanding into a broader one:
This approach helps realize our vision of cultivating an innovative learning environment that integrates nature, respects grassroots culture, and emphasizes sustainable education, preparing future generations for success in a connected and environmentally aware world.
Among the many thematic projects and activities at TMC are:
Family – Family photo frame project: Exploring the family unit.
Nationalism – Merdeka poem and traditional costume competition in August. Children learn about community occupations, and patriotic values and engage with the community.
Environment – Recycle project: Participating in a monthly recycling program by bringing recyclable items from home.
By using this method, we ensure that our vision is successfully implemented and our values are effectively conveyed.
